But the real self-discovery starts when her Aunt goes away for work and the five cousins are alone together. The story starts with Daisy quickly finding her place in this big family and finally feeling cared for. She moves from America, away from her father and his new, pregnant wife, and stays with her Aunt and four cousins in England.

It was sort of like visiting your family, and your annoying young cousin talks way too fast but after a while you start to understand them and it’s not so bad? I eventually got used to Daisy’s shared stream-of-consciousness, and grew to pity her as a young teenager with issues with her father, an eating disorder, and a mother who died giving birth to her. I nearly mentally passed out due to lack of mental-breath from all the run on sentences! BUT, after a while, you really get used to the style of writing. The way the protagonist, Daisy, told the story (I won’t have a go at the author’s writing, because it was clear this tactic was intended) caused my mind anxiety.

It was probably good that this book was compulsory, because after the first few pages I was in mental pain. Instead of writing a review, I want to focus on the controversial aspect of this book. Buuuuut I had to read it for a University assignment, and, well, any assignment that involves reading any book sounds pretty good to me! I have to start by saying that I wasn’t that interested in reading this book, especially when I found out the protagonist was about 15 (could be wrong?) and there was some incest going on.
